The regulatory pressure on a water heater manufacturer is heating up. A government body is seeking to require electric water heaters to connect to the electric utility’s demand response network so electricity usage could be optimized automatically.

The new Robertshaw^® eST was designed to be backwards-compatible with current controls, and provides the network interface to meet new, proposed government standards. The smart eST design maintains the current construction of the water heater itself and provides the manufacturer with a revenue stream by replacing non-communicating controls at current installations.
